Engineering at Canada's University

The University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering is world-renowned for its high quality teaching and research. This attracts the best students and professors, who continue to make our faculty one of the top-ranked engineering and computer science schools in Canada and the only one that offers programs of study in both English and French.

As a faculty, we strive to provide a learning environment that promotes ethical practices, responsibility towards society and excellence and innovation. We are committed to a culture built on respect of each individual and fair treatment for all.

Our Faculty

We provide our students with top-quality education in engineering and computer science and prepare our graduates to practice their professions so as to meet society's ever-changing needs. Innovative programs allow students to take courses in other fields, such as business, law and medicine. Our engineers and computer science specialists are at the forefront, developing and implementing effective and lasting solutions to many problems in areas such as water and food supply, waste management, development of renewable energy sources, communication and information technologies, housing and transportation, to name but a few. All undergraduate programs offer an optional cooperative education stream, as well as an option in engineering management and entrepreneurship.

We encourage a spirit of entrepreneurship among our students and staff. There are three annual Prize in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (PEI) student competitions (Launching Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurship Concepts and the Entrepreneurial Idea Competition) that provide over $60,000 to students and student teams who develop and successfully present effective business plans to market innovative products or services.

Excellence and diversity in research are central to our mission, building on our broad collaboration with industry and government research laboratories. The Faculty has several teaching and research laboratories. The many and varied research activities that our professors/researchers and our Master's and PhD students conduct also contribute directly to the quality of education at the undergraduate level. For example, undergraduate students may participate in research projects and activities.
