THE VALE MASTER'S AND UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

SUMMER JOB REQUIREMENT

All of the Vale scholarships are intended to encourage more women to further their careers in engineering in Canada by providing a financial reward and the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. All applicants should be aware that, when applying for a Vale scholarship at the master's or undergraduate level, they will be required to pass a job interview with Vale and to be available for a potential summer job as a condition of these scholarships.

In addition to a $10,000 master's or undergraduate scholarship, successful applicants for the Vale Scholarships may be offered three to four months of full-time employment at a Vale job site if certain employment criteria are met. With numerous locations across Canada, there is an opportunity for winners to gain real work experience close to home.

In relation to summer job opportunities, Vale will:

• Endeavor to place the award recipient in a location convenient to the student;

• Work with the student to fit the job to the student's area of study, research and interests;

• Provide pay at a competitive rate;

• Provide a letter to CEMF stating the employment criteria has been met; and

• Ensure the job opportunity is a positive learning experience working with a variety of professionals on real projects.

The Award Recipient will:

• Have successfully completed an interview with Vale during the application process;

• Commit to working for Vale at a mutually agreeable time, before October 15 of the year following the scholarship being awarded;

• Bring a positive, professional and open-minded approach to the position;

• Consider the position as an opportunity to learn, make important industry contacts and gain practical work experience; and

• Be willing to relocate or travel, if necessary.

Upon notification of receiving the award, CEMF will work with the winner and Vale to begin coordinating a summer placement.

The final installment of the award will be made by CEMF upon receipt of notification from Vale that the employment term has been completed. If the job opportunity has not been used by the winner, CEMF will require a letter from Vale Human Resources stating they have spoken with the student and have agreed to waive the job portion of the scholarship. At that time the final installment of the award will be released. If the job requirement is not met, and not waived, the student forfeits the second installment of the scholarship monies.

Please be aware that Vale reserves the option, based on employment availability, to not offer the job position in any given year. Arrangements can be made to defer the job due to research or course responsibilities, with Vale's permission, until after the second year of studies.
